The Taming of theShrew was directed by Beth Lopes and produced by The New Swan ShakespeareFestival. The production was set in the1980s, using Sid Vicious as inspiration for Petruchio, and Joan Jet as inspiration for Kate.
The concept was that these two Punk Rock characters lived in a yuppie world that was completely different than their own. The production emphasized the contrast of Kate and Petruchio with the rest of the bright 1980s characters, and made them more compatible to each other.
