Velveteen Rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit wasproduced by South Coast Repertory Theatre in May 2019 and directed by BethLopes.  The production of The Velveteen Rabbit was set in the1920s, which brought nostalgia to the characters of the beloved children’sbook.  The Velveteen Rabbit, himself, wasinspired by stuffed dolls of the 1920s, which often had little vest andjackets, glass eyes, soft whiskers and visible stitching on the body. Theinspiration for the other toy characters in the story, were the old tin toysfrom the 1920s to 1950s with their bold patterns and graphic designs.  The skin horse and the wooden lion were inspiredby wooden children’s toys of the 1920s that often used coarse hair to createthe mane and tails.  The humancharacters, such as The Boy and Nana, were inspired by typical looks of the1920s in soft blues and creams.
